-Discuss Struggles from this past week, and/or areas of expected upcoming struggle.
· Discuss Goals for the time you will spend together in this mentorship covenant.
-Discuss what a covenant is and provide biblical examples –
Gen 6:18 (first covenant), Gen 12:1-3 (Abrahamic Covenant) God would bless Abraham in two ways: (1) he would become a great nation and so have a great name, and (2) through him God would mediate blessing to all peoples on earth. Exodus 19:5-6 (Mosaic Covenant) In order to be God’s “treasured possession,” “kingdom of priests,” and “holy nation,” Israel must keep God’s covenant by submitting to its requirements. 2 Sam 23:5, Ps. 89:3 (Davidic Covenant) The Davidic covenant continues the trajectory of both the Mosaic and Abrahamic covenants. God’s plans for David and Israel are clearly intertwined.
Each covenant established the basis of a relationship, conditions for that relationship, promises and conditions of the relationship.
What is the Lord's covenant? Members of the Church are part of the Lord's covenant people. Within the gospel, a covenant means a sacred agreement or mutual promise between God and a person or a group of people. In making a covenant, God promises a blessing for obedience to His commandments.
The Idea of Covenant. The term "covenant" means a coming together. It presupposes two or more parties who come together to make a contract, agreeing on promises, stipulations, privileges, and responsibilities. In political situations, it can be translated treaty; in a social setting, it means a lifelong friendship agreement.
· Agree to a covenant for 12 weeks of Godly growth together.
1. I commit to pray daily for you.
2. I commit to maintaining my relationship with Christ in such a way that God will be able to work powerfully through me in your life.
3. I commit to meeting with you once a week for 12 weeks, choosing a time that is convenient for each of us, allowing at least an hour for each meeting.
4. I commit to helping you answer any questions you may have about God’s direction in your life, listening carefully, and only giving advice I believe to be Spirit-led.
5. I commit to challenging you to grow and mature spiritually, relationally, professionally, and academically, presenting scripture for study, and sharing personal testimony.
6. I commit to hold you accountable and be held accountable for the commitments we make.
· Start the process of building the “Bible Toolbox.”
The purpose is solidifying our own spiritual base and equipping us to respond when giving a defense of the calling the LORD has placed on our life to represent and witness on behalf of His Gospel, and Authority.
